The European Commission has officially revoked the organic certification license of Control Union in five countries, citing concerns over inadequate oversight that may have enabled organic fraud.

The suspension affects Control Union’s authority to certify organic products in Russia, Turkey, Moldova, Kazakhstan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Control Union is one of the largest international certifiers recognized by the EC and has long been a key player in the global organic certification landscape.

This move underscores increasing scrutiny from the European Commission regarding organic product verification and compliance, particularly in regions where systemic issues have been flagged.

Beyond organic cotton, Control Union also certifies standards related to wool, down, recycled materials, and supply chain traceability within the textile industry. Despite this setback, the company stated it plans to reapply for recognition in the affected countries.

This development is a reminder to all stakeholders in sustainable textiles to remain vigilant about certification integrity and the credibility of their verification partners.
